Color Vision Field Guide

Live · sourced guide, written September 2026

A child who cannot read a colour cue is often told he is not paying attention. The answer is usually ordinary and inherited, but the material families meet first is either a clinical page written for practitioners or an online test that cannot test anything.

The problem. A child who cannot read a colour cue is often told he is not paying attention. The answer is usually ordinary and inherited, but the material families meet first is either a clinical page written for practitioners or an online test that cannot test anything.

What it does. Starts with one family's eye appointment and works outward: what the plates do and do not show, how the common red–green differences are inherited, how prevalence estimates differ between populations, and what changes at school and at home once a child's colour vision is known.

Built on. A static guide built on cited sources, with public-domain historic plates shown as teaching images and each estimate attributed to the body that published it.

What it does not establish. Not a test and not a diagnosis. Screens change what anyone sees, population estimates do not describe an individual, and the family's own genotype is not established.

This record is generated from the same inventory as the complete build index: the production URL was checked at the last regeneration, and the status line above repeats what the build reports about itself rather than restating an intention.
